Our story, Maui since 1973
Mel Pomroy started Kahului Carpet & Drapery with his own hands in January 1973. His daughter Michele is Vice President today, with the next generation working alongside her. Same showroom, same values.
How it started
Mel Pomroy was 25 when he flew over from Oahu and landed on Maui in 1971. Cane fields from the mountains to the harbor. Trade winds off the channel. A small town where a handshake still meant something. He fell for the Valley Isle and never left. Two years later, in January 1973, he opened Kahului Carpet & Drapery and built it one job at a time.
Over fifty years of Maui homes, hotels, schools, and government buildings later, his daughter Michele Pomroy Fraser is Vice President. She grew up in this business and runs it the way her father did: pick up the phone, show up on time, do the work right. The next generation of the family works here too.
Today the company is licensed across every Hawaiian island, operating as Kahului Carpet & Drapery Products, Inc., DBA Olona Building Solutions. The showroom is in the Old Kahului Shopping Center, a place the Pomroy family has deep roots in. Some things do not need to change.

The showroom
The Pomroy family built the company, but it runs on people who have been here for years. Mike and Marilyn both joined in 2007, and they are a big part of why customers come back.

Old Kahului
Kahului Carpet & Drapery grew up alongside the town. A little of what we remember.
Off a plane from Oahu into plantation Maui. The HC&S cane fields ran from the mountains to the harbor, and everybody knew everybody.
A simple promise: do good work, treat people right, bring aloha to every job. Central Maui was growing fast and Mel was on his knees making sure the new floors were something to be proud of.
The two people you still meet first in the showroom today.
Michele runs the company from the Old Kahului Shopping Center with the next generation of the family in the business. Residential and commercial, all six islands.
