What to Do If Your Floor Takes on Water

Whether it's a burst pipe, an overflowing washing machine, or storm water finding its way in, water on your floor is stressful — but a few quick, calm steps in the first hours make a real difference in the outcome.

Act Fast, But Don't Panic

Remove standing water as soon as it's safe to do so, and get air moving with fans and, if you have one, a dehumidifier. LVP and tile generally tolerate water far better than carpet or solid hardwood, but even water-resistant floors can suffer if moisture gets trapped underneath for too long.

When to Call In Help

If water sat for more than a few hours, or if you're seeing any buckling, lifting, or a musty smell, it's worth having someone take a look before you assume everything dried out fine.
