Roman Shades vs. Drapery: Which Fits Your Window?

Roman shades and traditional drapery both dress a window beautifully, but they solve fairly different problems — and we get asked to compare them often enough that it's worth spelling out honestly.

What Roman Shades Do Well

Roman shades fold neatly upward in soft horizontal pleats, giving a clean, tailored look that works well in smaller windows or spaces where floor-length drapery would feel like too much. They're a strong choice for kitchens, bathrooms, and other rooms where a more compact treatment makes sense.

What Drapery Adds

Drapery brings more softness, more fabric volume, and the option of a fuller blackout or thermal lining — better suited to bedrooms and living rooms where light control and a more dramatic, finished look matter most. Plenty of homes end up using both: Roman shades in smaller utility spaces, drapery in the rooms meant for relaxing. We're always happy to walk through your specific windows and help figure out which approach actually fits.
