LVP vs. Sheet Vinyl: What's the Difference?

Both LVP and sheet vinyl fall under the broader "vinyl flooring" umbrella, and it's a common point of confusion — but they're genuinely different products with different strengths.

Sheet Vinyl

Sheet vinyl comes in large rolls and is typically installed as one continuous piece across a room, which makes it especially water-resistant since there are few or no seams for moisture to work into. It's a longtime favorite for bathrooms and laundry rooms for exactly that reason.

Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP)

LVP is installed as individual planks that click or glue together, giving it a more realistic wood-look appearance and a sturdier, more comfortable feel underfoot than sheet vinyl. It's also easier to repair — a single damaged plank can sometimes be replaced without redoing the whole floor. For most Maui living spaces, we lean toward LVP for that combination of realistic look and durability, while sheet vinyl still earns its place in smaller, moisture-heavy rooms.
