Layering Sheers With Drapery for Everyday Light Control

It's easy to think of sheers and drapery as an either-or choice, but layered together they solve more problems than either one does alone — and it's one of our favorite everyday recommendations.

Why Layering Works

A sheer panel lets soft, filtered daylight in while still giving a layer of privacy from the street or a neighboring lanai, and a heavier drapery panel layers on top for evening privacy, light-blocking, and a more finished, styled look. Together, they cover the full range of what a window actually needs to do across a full day.

Getting the Look Right

The trick is proportion — sheers usually hang closest to the glass, with drapery mounted slightly forward on its own rod or track so both layers can move independently. It's a detail that's easy to get wrong with off-the-shelf pieces but straightforward when it's planned for your exact windows from the start, which is exactly the kind of thing we help with at a measuring appointment.
