Drapery Hardware 101: Rods, Tracks, and Finials
June 28, 2026
Beautiful fabric can still fall flat if the hardware holding it up isn't right — and it's a detail we see homeowners overlook more than almost any other part of a drapery project.
Rods vs. Tracks
Decorative rods add visual style on their own, with exposed finials and rings that become part of the room's design, while tracks disappear behind the fabric entirely, favored for a cleaner, more modern look or for motorized setups. Which one fits depends heavily on the overall style of the room.
Don't Overlook the Finials
Finials — the decorative caps at each end of a rod — are a small detail with an outsized visual impact, tying the whole window treatment together or clashing with it if chosen carelessly. We always bring hardware samples alongside fabric swatches for exactly this reason; the fabric might be the star, but the hardware is what makes it look finished rather than just hung up.
