Cleaning Products to Avoid on Your New Floor
June 12, 2026
A well-meaning cleaning routine can actually do more harm than good if it's not matched to your flooring type. This is one of the most common — and most avoidable — mistakes we see after a new install.
What to Watch Out For
Vinegar-based cleaners, ammonia, and harsh abrasive cleaners can dull the finish on LVP and laminate over time, while steam mops can push moisture into seams that many manufacturers explicitly warn against. Carpet has its own sensitivities too — some stain-fighting sprays leave a sticky residue that actually attracts more dirt.
What We Recommend Instead
A pH-neutral cleaner made specifically for your flooring type is almost always the safest bet, and it's worth checking your product's care sheet before reaching for whatever's under the sink. If you're ever unsure, give us a call — we'd genuinely rather answer a quick question than have you accidentally void a warranty or dull a floor you just invested in.
